What's All This Then?

Greetings!

This blog has run its course, as it were. Actually three courses, but don't let that stop you from reading. Here's the skinny: I dedicated most of 2008 to running and fundraising for cancer research. On June 1, I ran the San Diego Rock n' Rock marathon. On June 21 I ran a half marathon in Anchorage, Alaska. Both of these feats were tackled with the coaching and support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, for which I raised $5,725. The final challenge was the New York City marathon on Nov. 2. This time I trained with "Fred's team" on behalf of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center where I was treated successfully for Hodgkins lymphoma five years ago. I raised another $3240 (maybe more).

It was a banner year in many ways. I celebrated 5 years of health. I raised a lot of money. I earned a Team in Training triple crown for completing a triathlon, century bike ride and marathon. I was featured on a show about three first time runners in the NYC marathon, aired on NBC in New York. And ....

You can read all about my journey in sneakers below. And remember:
"A journey of 26.2 miles begins with a single shlep."

Cross Purposes

I spent 30 minutes on the elliptical machine and it didn't seem like an eternity. That's a weak endorsement of that particular cross training regimen. Still, I'm thankful for that because I want to enjoy this process, not just endure it. I tried to make it a challenging cardio workout and got a good sweat going. Next time, I'm aiming for the pool. Now that's my idea of cross training. I want to get back into a groove of at least one yoga class and Pilates with Kate, too. Today I had to settle for my 20-minute Pilates workout tape stretched out on my kitchen floor where there is barely enough room for me to kick to the front and back without hitting something. I don't know how much more of this luxury living I can stand.

I'm going to the GTS tomorrow night, in part because I may be out of town this weekend and I don't want to lose momentum. I also want to learn some drills and specific techniques. Evenings are not ideal, but that's just the way it is. If I go out of town, I'll bring my jump rope for a good pounding. It makes my legs feel better.

I need to get to the bottom of my email problem. Some stuff is being routed to the wrong place totally randomly. Sorting that out is on the top of the list tomorrow. Nonetheless, I finally got a missive out to my teammates. I didn't get to the Society's office today to drop off letters. So much for that imposed deadline.

"I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they whiz by." -- Douglas Adams.

Indeed.
